“Weaving of Light and Earth” by Jam Wu
“Weaving of Light and Earth” features a series of paper art pieces centered on the concepts of sustainability and heritage, including works titled “Bonfire – Weaving” and “Basking”.
‘Paper-cutting’ is regarded as a significant element of intangible cultural heritage, while ‘weaving’ is a major component of tribal and primitive art. Both paper-cutting and weaving are ancient, maternal forms of craftsmanship used to depict life, imagination, and the transmission of cultural lineage.
‘Paper’ is an ancient cultural asset that bears the history of human civilisation. In this creation, the fibrous texture and archival nature of paper are highlighted, with time-marked, field-recorded printed pages being given new creative life. The work “Bonfire – Weaving” constructs a human-centered cosmology, using the craft of ‘weaving’ to deconstruct the color blocks of ‘paper-cutting’, transforming them into pixelated and abstract forms. ‘Sunshine’ is a site-specific paper installation, featuring large-scale dyeing and cutting that showcases the delicate translucency of the material.
