ABOUT THE BALVENIE

Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Dufftown, Speyside, The Balvenie distillery has been handcrafting whisky for more than 125 years, notably the most handcrafted of single malts. Nowhere else can you find a distillery that grows its own barley, malts in its own traditional floor maltings and still employs a team of coopers to tend to the casks alongside a coppersmith to maintain the stills.

With a team committed to ultimate craftsmanship, their dedicated characters pour their soul and obsession into every single bottle. This demonstrates that, whilst it takes skill to make something great, it takes true heart to make it extraordinary. And of course, Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie presides over the all-important maturation process.

Founded in 1892 by William Grant, The Balvenie Single Malt Scotch Whisky is produced by William Grant & Sons Ltd, an award-winning independent family-owned distiller and today run by his direct descendants. Each expression has a very individual taste, rich, luxuriously smooth and underpinned by the distinctively honeyed character of The Balvenie.

THE BALVENIE RARE MARRIAGES

Designed by David Stewart MBE, The Balvenie Rare Marriages Range is a collection of three distinct whiskies that showcase extraordinary layers of depth and complexity.

On the surface, these whiskies are immediately The Balvenie with the distinct runny honey and underlying rich oakiness, they are exceptional drams. But to those who enquire further, who give the whisky time, let the flavours unfold; they will discover the flavours slowly dissipate to reveal layers of toasted marshmallows, fresh fruit and cinnamon, a continuous unveiling of discovery.

Every sip unveils layers of exceptional complexity; from a seemingly subdued appearance evolves into astounding timeless tranquillity.
THE BALVENIE TWENTY FIVE

In a flawless whisky marriage, Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE brings together individual casks that have matured in Traditional American and European Oak to craft an incredibly intricate and balanced expression; exemplifying the art and skill of Single Malt TUN marriages.

A whisky of exceptional character, Twenty-Five hints at our most sought-after Balvenie flavours – bold vanilla oak, crystallised ginger and sweet runny honey.

Smooth and honeyed on the nose with mellow oaky tones and hints of candied orange peel.

CRAFTED WITH HEART

The Balvenie Twenty-Five year old single malt is a whisky that has true craft at its heart. To mark the release of this new expression as part of its Rare Marriages collection, The Balvenie has collaborated with renowned paper quilling artist Yulia Brosdskaya to create a stunning piece of artwork that visually represents this new whisky.

Having earned international recognition for her unique artwork, Yulia is an artist who transforms the everyday material, paper, into wondrous, colourful creations. Using her equivalent of ‘painting’ with paper, Yulia crafts tightly packed stacks of paper that are cut, bent, and carefully placed to imitate brushstrokes. From afar the piece imitates the flow and fluidity of the whisky, while on closer inspection reveals the 25-year-old age statement, nestled behind the new Twenty Five whisky, which takes pride of place at the centre of the artwork. The result is a stunning three-dimensional artwork that echoes this seemingly simple and incredibly complex liquid of The Balvenie Rare Marriage range.
About Yulia Brodskaya

Renowned paper artist Yulia Brodskaya pushes the boundaries of the centuries-old craft known as paper Quilling.

Originally trained as a graphic designer and illustrator, her first paper artworks were born out of a desire to create self-promotional work to impress potential design clients. But by spelling her name ‘YULIA’ in strips of paper, she had unknowingly entered the world of this centuries-old paper craft and completely reinvented it: thanks to a decade of Yulia’ s paper art practice, Quilling is enjoying a modern revival.

Soon after discovering her passion and unique style, Brodskaya has swiftly earned an international reputation for her innovative paper illustrations and was named the ‘breakthrough star’ of the 2009 by Creative Review magazine. Her modern take on the paper craft practice has helped her build an impressive list of clients in just a few short years (over 200 projects and brand collaborations with clients ranging from Neiman Marcus to Hermes, Issey Miyake to Wimbledon, Paramount Pictures to Balvenie among many others). In 2016 she also created a Forever® stamp design for United States Postal Service.
