ART TAIPEI 2024 | The inaugural TAIPEI ART WEEK: a journey of art connecting the city with the public

The inaugural TAIPEI ART WEEK: a journey of art connecting the city with the public

The inaugural TAIPEI ART WEEK will begin on October 19, 2024 and flourish until October 31st. The first edition of TAIPEI ART WEEK uses "In Bloom" as its theme, and with "blooming" as its core concept, the city will be filled with art events in October, presenting the effect of in bloom all around the city. The event will divide Taipei City into eight sectors, Interconnecting galleries, art museums, and various arts and cultural organizations to fully mobilize the city's artistic energy.

The key visual design is a composition of multiple abstract shapes to symbolize flowers in bloom, representing the vibrant vitality and diversity of art in Taiwan. Through the events of TAIPEI ART WEEK, rich and wonderful forms of art will bloom all over Taipei City, linking different orientations and scales of art and cultural spaces with art museums, so that the beauty of art can nourish every corner of the city. Everyone is invited to experience the infinite charm of artistic Taipei.

TAIPEI ART WEEK is organized by Taiwan Art Gallery Association (TAGA), and has invited individuals in the visual arts field in Taiwan to cover eight aspects: galleries, exhibitions, art events, forums, cultural events, museums, installations, and the official website of TAIPEI ART WEEK. All of this will come together to weave a colorful landscape of art. It is hoped that by combining the domestic and international focus and attention brought by the original ART TAIPEI, the city and the public can become more connected, allowing art to change people’s perspective of appreciating the city, and also start to bring Taiwan's art energy to focus on the art fair in October.

Since its founding, TAGA has been committed to enhancing the development of the art industry, promoting art education, and facilitating international art exchanges. In this era of globalization and localization, Taiwan's art creations are rooted in local culture and represent the spirit of this land, resonating with audiences around the world. Claudia Chen, the 16th Director General of TAGA, said, "Over the past 30 years, Taiwan's artistic energy has been low key and quiet, with many things only known to those in the community. However, with the changing of the guards, we hope that through TAIPEI ART WEEK, Taiwan's art and culture will be able to show the international community that Taiwan has a vibrant art market through the diverse range of innovations and connections.

Director General Chen said, “There are more than 90 contemporary art galleries in Taipei City alone, and the proliferation of public and private art museums in recent years signifies that the energy of contemporary art in Taipei continues to prosper and develop, attracting the attention of more and more corporations. The first edition of TAIPEI ART WEEK will try to bring together various art and cultural activities such as Taipei Fashion Week and ART TAIPEI in the fall, and turn every corner of the city into a stage for art."

In the post-pandemic era, the Taiwanese government cultural policy is following the 1 plus 4 T-content plan, and it is imperative to establish a city-based open access art platform in Taiwan, which has also become an important task for TAGA as the industry leader. Director General Chen is filled with high hopes that TAIPEI ART WEEK will inject new energy into Taiwan's art industry!
