Yuriko Nishikawa was born in 1996. She lives and works in Tokyo, expresses the layers of air and light surrounding the bottles and their surroundings, as well as the space of existence itself. In today’s accelerated digital society and information overload, her paintings have the power to show us the invisible, as she continues to pursue the “real touch” of the things and places in front of her eyes. She uses oil paints, dyes, and photographs as materials for her works, which are rich in colorful materiality and powerful brush strokes. The paintings are connected to the real space we live in today, and we can hear the breath of reality.

The work is composed of multiple oil paintings of bottles, photographs of various locations, disjointed fabrics, and dyed fabrics. Each of the materials and techniques used in this work straddle space to create a multidimensional depth. The two panels of this work form a single piece, and a pictorial spatial structure emerges from the blank space created between the panels. The sense of floating created by the coexistence of different materials and motifs on the same screen evokes the sensation of the contemporary daily life where the real and the digital are intermingled. The “scattered” situation is truly manifested in the form of paintings.
